Allowing Jesus To ?Increase? …

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of The Birth of St. John The Baptist. One of his best known scriptural quotes offers great advice on how we should live our lives:

He must increase, but I must decrease (Jn 3:30)

It sounds simple, but how do we let Christ?s presence increase in our lives? A good way to start is to ask for His help. I?ve always loved the following prayer:

The Jesus Prayer – (St. John Gabriel Perboyre, CM)

O my Divine Savior, transform me into yourself.
May my hands be the hands of Jesus.
May my tongue be the tongue of Jesus,
Grant that every faculty of my body may serve only to glorify you.
Above all, transform my soul and all its powers,
that my memory, my will and my affections
may be the memory, the will and the affections of Jesus.
I pray you to destroy in me all that is not of you.
Grant that I may live but in you and for you,
and that I may truly say with St. Paul:
“I live, now not I, but Christ lives in me” (Gal 2:20).

Amen.
