Asking For Mary?s Help

Are you confused as to Mary?s role in the Catholic Faith? If so, you?re not alone? Many Catholics are not even sure of her purpose. Can she perform miracles? Is she divine? Should we pray to her or pray to Jesus?

Simply put, despite what some individuals assert, Catholics do not worship Mary. She is not divine, but is human like you and me. She cannot perform miracles by her own power. However, as illustrated at the wedding at Cana (Jn 2:1-11), she is a powerful intercessor with Her Son, Jesus. It was at her urging that Our Lord performed His first miracle (changing water into wine).

For many years, I didn?t have a good relationship with Mary. I suspect that I am not the only one. If you are in the same situation, I recommend that you try this simple exercise? Are there any prayer intentions that you don?t think will ever be answered (Perhaps the conversion of a family member or the conquering of sinful habit, something that you?ve prayed about for years with no success?)? Present these intentions to Mary and ask her to give them to Jesus. Continue to ask for her help each day and see what happens. It might take a while, but I predict that you will see some progress. While it may not be the answer that you expect, something will happen. God could have sent His Son in any number of ways, but He chose to send Him through Mary. It only makes sense that the best way for us to access Jesus is also through Mary.

As you turn to her more and more, you will begin to see Our Lady as your mother. As you draw closer to her, she will lead you closer to Jesus. If you still have difficulty with this, ask Jesus to help you love His mother more.

Why not give it a try and see what happens? I promise that you won?t have any regrets.
