Following The Truth

This Week On Following The Truth With Gary Zimak…

It’s going to be an exciting week (7/8 – 7/13) on the Following The Truth radio show.

Here’s the lineup…

Sunday (Sunday Sunset) – A 15 minute show designed to close out the Lord’s Day and get you ready for the week to come. We’ll pray the Night Prayer (from the Liturgy of the Hours) and briefly reflect on Sunday’s readings.

Monday (Understanding The Mass – The Introductory Rites) – Why do we now say “And With Your Spirit” instead of “And Also With You”? Why do we ask for mercy 3 times? What is the purpose of the Gloria? We’ll answer these and many more questions, using the book, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass (Book): Understanding What We Say and Do In The Liturgy by Dr. Edward Sri.

Tuesday (How To Listen When God Is Speaking) – How come God never speaks to me? That question can often be answered with another question…are you listening? Join us as we begin looking at the book, How to Listen When God Is Speaking: A Guide for Modern-Day Catholics by Fr. Mitch Pacwa. If you are trying to make a decision in accordance with God’s Will, you don’t want to miss this weekly series!

Wednesday (The Importance Of Silence And Solitude) – In an increasingly noisy and busy world, it’s difficult to find the time or the place to be silent. In his book, Imitation of Christ, Thomas a Kempis has a lot to say about the importance of silence and solitude. We’ll discuss it on this show.

Thursday (10 Tips For Praying The Rosary) – Taken from various sources, we’ll present 10 great tips to help you PRAY and not just SAY the rosary. If you struggle with this great prayer, be sure to listen!

Friday (Learning To Deny Yourself) – In his book, The Hidden Power of Kindness: A Practical Handbook for Souls Who Dare to Transform the World, One Deed at a Time, Fr. Lawrence Lovasik discusses the importance of learning to deny ourselves. In the second half of the show, we’ll read and discuss the Mass Readings for the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Now approaching 50,000 listens since first going on the air in late 2010, the Following The Truth radio show has become a nightly part of many people’s spiritual routine. Listen for yourself and see what all the fuss is about!

Following The Truth Radio Show Expands To 60 Minutes!

I’m excited to announce that, beginning on April 16th, Following The Truth on BlogTalkRadio will expand to a full 6o minutes each night! Here is the official press release, released today:

4/9/2012 – 5:58 AM PST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEDIA ADVISORY
Catholic PRWire

Cinnaminson, NJ (April 9, 2012) – Beginning on April 16, 2012, the popular Following The Truth radio program on BlogTalkRadio will be expanding from 30 to 60 minutes . Created and hosted by Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak, the show will air from 8 – 9 PM Eastern every Monday thru Friday. In addition, all programs are archived and can be downloaded as podcasts (free of charge) from the BlogTalkRadio archives or iTunes.

“When I first started the show in December of 2010”, Zimak recalled, “it was 15 minutes long and aired three times per week. A few months later, I felt the call to expand it to 30 minutes and now it’s time to expand again!” The program is designed to help listeners become better Catholics, by teaching the basics of the Faith and motivating them to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus.

In addition to the daily feature, “Catholicism by THE Book”, in which the current day’s Mass readings are read and discussed, the expanded program will feature novenas, devotions (including St. Louis de Montfort’s Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, which begins in September), music and a unique theme each night:

(Monday) What Catholics Really Believe – Learn what Catholics REALLY believe about the Eucharist, Mary, the Saints, the Sacraments, indulgences and other often misunderstood topics.

(Tuesday) Finding God’s Will – What is God’s will for our lives? Using the teachings of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Alphonsus Liguori, Saint Francis de Sales and others, Gary will offer suggestions for discerning and following God’s will.

(Wednesday) Imitating Christ – Learn to better imitate Jesus by reflecting on Thomas a Kempis’ spiritual masterpiece, The Imitation of Christ.

(Thursday) Mother’s Day – This day is set aside for discussing the Blessed Mother and various Marian devotions.

(Friday) Speak Lord, Your Servant Is Listening – Get ready to hear the Lord speak to you at Mass! Gary will read and discuss the Mass readings for the upcoming Sunday’s liturgy.

According to Zimak, “Catholics are hungry to learn more about their faith and to apply Church teachings to their everyday lives. They have many questions. How does God want us to handle situations that arise in our lives? How do we find time to pray when we’re busy? How can I find peace in the midst of problems? While teaching the facts is very important, I also want to ensure that we learn how to apply those facts and encounter Christ in the midst of our ordinary duties. This expanded format will now give me more time to make that happen. I’m looking forward to working with the listeners as we journey together toward our ultimate destiny – eternal life in Heaven!”

I Need Your Help!

Hi Friends,

As many of you know, I am entering into my 2nd month as a FULL TIME Catholic lay evangelist. Having been a comfort loving, non-risk taking professional employee for thirty years, working for the Lord is proving to be a major adjustment for me. It gives me MANY opportunities to trust in His providence. It also necessitates that I humble myself and do something that doesn’t come easy to me…

ASK FOR DONATIONS!

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t receive an email telling me that my work is helping someone grow closer to Christ. Here are a few samples of comments that I’ve received in the past few weeks:

I am doing well! And so much of my wellness has to do with you. I have told you again and again how much you have helped me. You are doing the work that God wants you to do. I loved your show tonight. I learn so much from you.

Thank you again, Gary, for doing all of this. What a Godsend you are! 🙂

I think this retreat is awesome!! You are very good at what you do. And the best part is that I can understand it.

Your presentation really touched something in me. Thank you for being dramatic!

I have looked at the Spiritual Exercises before and could not figure out how to do them. Thanks for all your work in making them understandable!

I believe in my heart that the Lord truly wants me to work for Him as a FULL TIME Catholic lay evangelist, but I can’t do it without your support. I am the sole provider for my family and, just like you, I have bills that must be paid. If you have been helped by my work and would like to see that it continues, please consider becoming a monthly sponsor of Following The Truth or make a one time donation. Currently, donations are WELL BELOW the level that I need to continue my apostolate.

The world is a dark place and needs the light that can only be provided by the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. Your donation will allow me to continue doing that. My hope is that, beginning on April 16th, my nightly radio show will expand to a full 60 minutes. In addition to the usual themes, I’ll be reading and discussing the daily Mass readings and playing music from Catholic recording artists. This will not be possible, however, without your donations.

You can donate securely with PayPal by using the form at the upper right of this web page. If you’d rather send a check, please email me for the mailing address.

I will continue to keep you all in my daily prayers. Please know that I’m always here for you if you need anything!

In Christ,
Gary

Big Lenten Announcement Coming On Monday!

What are you doing for Lent this year? On Monday, February 20 at 8:30 PM Eastern, I’ll be making a special announcement about something very important that will be taking place on my nightly Following The Truth radio program during Lent. If you want this to be your best Lent ever and truly desire to get closer to Christ, be sure to check back here on Monday for the BIG announcement!

Peace,
Gary

A Message From Gary…

My Friends,

Following The Truth was founded in 2008 and has grown from a simple website to a full-fledged Catholic evangelization apostolate. In the past 3 years, I’ve been able to expand my outreach to include Facebook, Twitter, a nightly radio program on BlogTalkRadio, numerous blog posts and regular appearances on EWTN Radio. During that time, I was able to fund all of these activities myself and never accepted any donations.

After several years of feeling the call to become a full time Catholic lay evangelist, I did just that on January 9, 2012 (the feast of the Baptism of the Lord). Although this move was brought about due to the fact that I was laid off from my day job, I view it as answered prayer.  While it’s frightening to “step out of the boat”, I believe that it’s what the Lord is calling me to do.

Now that Following The Truth is a full time apostolate, I must do something that I’m not especially comfortable doing. In order to provide for my family and to continue the Lord’s work, I’d like to ask you to prayerfully consider becoming a monthly supporter or making a one time donation to Following The Truth. Your contribution, no matter what the amount, is essential to the survival of Following The Truth. While it would greatly help me to acquire a core group of monthly donors, I would also appreciate any one time donation you may be able to make.

In return, I promise to give you even more of what you’ve come to expect with Following The Truth.  Now that I’m working for the Lord on a full time basis, I can devote more time proclaiming the “Good News” of the Catholic Faith!  Look for an expanded nightly radio show, more talks at churches and conferences and the release of additional books (my first book, A Worrier’s Guide To The Bible is complete and will be released by Liguori Publications in a few months).  Not to mention the “ever popular” daily Catholic Trivia Challenge on my Facebook fan page!

If you feel that my work has helped you and would like to see it continue, you can donate securely using the PayPal buttons at the right of this page.  Although your donations are NOT tax deductible (I do not have non-profit, tax exempt status), they are much needed and GREATLY appreciated.  If you are unable to contribute financially (I fully understand that times are tough), I’d ask you to pray for me, my family and my work with Following The Truth.  I remain firmly convinced that the “Good News” of the Catholic Faith MUST continue to be boldly proclaimed in the world today!

Thank you for your attention. I won’t make a habit of begging for money and will only do it when necessary. I promise to keep you all in my daily prayers, especially at Mass, in my rosary and before the Blessed Sacrament.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email me.

Thank you and God Bless,
Gary

This Week On Following The Truth Radio…

The Following The Truth radio show with Gary Zimak airs Monday-Friday at 8 PM Eastern on BlogTalkRadio (podcasts are available free of charge in the BlogTalkRadio archives and iTunes).

Here’s the lineup for this week’s programs (1/16/12 – 1/20/12):

Monday: Understanding The Holy Spirit (Part 2) – Mondays on Following The Truth are dedicated to discussing “What Catholics Really Believe”, as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  Join Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak as he continues his discussion of the role of the Holy Spirit, as presented in the Catechism.  Often a source of confusion, the role of the Holy Spirit can be extremely important to us as Christians.  Tune in and let’s explore the Holy Spirit in detail!

Tuesday: Living Joyfully – The Bible tells us to “Rejoice always” (1 Thessalonians 5:16) and “Do not worry about your life” (Matthew 6:25), but it’s often easier said than done. Join Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak as he explores ways to be joyful, even in the midst of turmoil.  How can this be done?  By focusing on the Lord!  Gary will use Sacred Scripture, the writings of the Saints and the teaching of the Church to highlight ways to live joyfully each day. Many of you are being asked to trust the Lord even when it doesn’t make sense. Tune in as we look at some ways to be joyful and trust in God’s plan for our lives!

Wednesday: Interior Conversion – Wednesdays on Following The Truth are dedicated to “Imitating Christ”.  Join Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak as he takes a look at one the all time great spiritual books, The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis.  This week, Gary will look at the importance of interior conversion. As Christians, we are all called to imitate Christ.  While it sounds difficult, it’s by no means impossible.  Tune in for some practical advice and suggestions and see for yourself!

Thursday: Listening To Mary’s Voice (Confusion) – Thursday is Mother’s Day on Following The Truth and this week we’ll begin a 7 part series focusing on Mary’s words in Sacred Scripture.  Join Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak as he examines Mary’s words to the angel Gabriel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” (Luke 1:34).  Just like many of us, Mary was confused about the details of her mission.  We can learn much from the spoken words of Mary.  Tune in for the next 7 Thursdays and let the Blessed Mother speak to you!

Friday: Responding To The Lord’s Call – Friday on Following The Truth is devoted to “Catholicism by the Book”.  Join Catholic lay evangelist Gary Zimak as he opens up the Bible and discusses the Mass readings for the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today’s readings are about responding to the Lord’s call. Don’t miss the chance to get better prepared to hear God’s voice in Sacred Scripture and respond to His commands!

Tune in and TELL A FRIEND!
