St. Louis de Montfort Consecration

Fr. Michael Gaitley LIVE On Following The Truth!

As we (all 1,400 of us!) head into the FINAL week of our 33 day Total Consecration retreat, I’m pleased to announce that Fr. Michael Gaitley (the author of 33 Days To Morning Glory) will be visiting the Following The Truth radio show TONIGHT (October 2nd) at 8 PM Eastern! Father Gaitley will spend 30 minutes with us, answering questions about Total Consecration and offering encouragement as we head into the final 5 days of our retreat. You can listen to the program (live, or by downloading the podcast after it airs) HERE.

Please let your friends know about this exciting opportunity to hear one of the foremost proponents of Marian Consecration. Even if you’re not making your Total Consecration, this is a great chance to learn more about a devotion that was very important to Blessed (soon to be Saint) Pope John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St. Maximilian Kolbe and many others. In his charismatic and “down to earth” style, Fr. Gaitley will help us understand the importance of accepting Mary as our spiritual mother and how she can draw us closer to Jesus!

To Jesus Through Mary!

Total Consecration Begins TODAY!

The day has arrived! Beginning today, I’ll be leading 1,300 participants (you read that correctly…a new record!) through the preparation for Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary on my daily BlogTalkRadio show. As most of you know, I’ll be using the acclaimed book 33 Days to Morning Glory: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat In Preparation for Marian Consecration by Fr. Michael Gaitley as the basis for our 33 day preparation. If you haven’t already done so, please visit the My Consecration website to order your FREE Total Consecration kit, which includes a copy of the book that we’ll be using. Obviously, if you’re ordering the book now you won’t receive it in time to begin our preparation, but don’t panic. Although it’s recommended that you have a copy of the book, it’s not mandatory. I will be reading the daily material on my radio show, so you can just listen along.

If you haven’t yet signed up for our email mailing list, you can do so HERE. Signing up for the list will ensure that you get my weekly email summaries. I’ll also use these emails to address common questions or areas of confusion. Rest assured that I will not share your email address with anyone.

What Is Total Consecration?
According to Fr. Gaitley, Marian consecration means “giving Mary our full permission to complete her motherly task in us, which is to form us into other Christs”. The preparation period will involve 33 days of meditation and prayer, based on the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa and Blessed Pope John Paul II. After making our way through the preparation phase we will then make (or renew) or Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary on October 7th, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Got Questions?
As we journey through the 33 day preparation process, I encourage you to email me with ANY questions or concerns that you may have. We are on this journey together and I am available seven days a week to assist you in any way I can. My ministry is a full time occupation and I am honored to help you in any way I can. Since we have such a large number of participants, however, I will be dealing with numerous email requests. I ask for your patience, as it may take a day or two to respond to you questions.

How Can I Listen To Your Radio Show?
The Following The Truth Radio Show airs Monday – Friday at 8 PM Eastern and (for the duration of the Total Consecration preparation period) every Saturday – Sunday at 2 PM Eastern. You can also listen to or download the podcast from the BlogTalkRadio archives (immediately after the program airs) or from iTunes (the day after the program airs). To listen to the nightly show or download the podcasts, visit the Following TheTruth BlogTalkRadio page. Additionally, you can listen to the last 5 podcasts directly from my website.

How Does The Retreat Work?
The format of the retreat is simple. Each day, I’ll present the daily material during the first 30 minutes of my radio show. During the second half of the show, I’ll read and discuss the daily Mass readings as well as various Marian topics. Although I’d strongly encourage you to listen to the entire program (because I’ll tie the readings to the daily Consecration material), I’m placing the Total Consecration material at the beginning for the sake of those who don’t have the time to listen to the entire show.

Need More Information?
For the past 2 days, I have devoted my entire 60 minute show to the subject of Total Consecration. On Monday’s show (click HERE to listen), I explained more about Total Consecration. On Tuesday’s show (click HERE to listen), I discussed common questions and pitfalls associated with the process. I strongly recommend that you listen to those podcasts for more information.

Looking For A Life Changing Experience? Try Total Consecration!

The word “life changing” gets used quite a bit these days. As one would expect, it relates to an experience that changes one’s life. There are different degrees of such experiences, however, some of which are more important than others. As Christians, the ultimate life changing experience is one that will bring us closer to the Lord and help us to get to Heaven. It doesn’t get more important than that! Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary (popularized by St. Louis de Montfort in the 18th century) is such an experience. It WILL change your life!

Beginning on September 4th, I’ll once again be leading Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary on my daily BlogTalkRadio show. This year, I’m thrilled that we’ll be using the acclaimed book 33 Days To Morning Glory by Fr. Michael Gaitley as the basis for our 33 day preparation. Even better is that you can order a FREE copy of the book (if you live in the US or Canada)!

What exactly is Total (or Marian) consecration? According to Fr. Gaitley, Marian consecration means “giving Mary our full permission to complete her motherly task in us, which is to form us into other Christs”. The preparation period will involve 33 days of meditation and prayer, based on the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa and Blessed Pope John Paul II. After making our way through the preparation phase we will then make (or renew) or Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary on October 7th, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Why should you consecrate your life to Jesus through Mary? Here are a few reasons…

“The more we honor the Blessed Virgin, the more we honor Jesus Christ, because we honor Mary only that we may more perfectly honor Jesus, since we go to her only as the way by which we are to find the end we are seeking, which is Jesus.” (Saint Louis de Montfort)

“There is no surer or easier way than Mary in uniting all men with Christ.” (Pope St. Pius X)

“We are convinced without any doubt that devotion to Our Lady is essentially joined with devotion to Christ.” (Pope Paul VI)

Total Consecration Summary (Day 1-12)

As you may be aware, on September 4th I began leading 880 people as we prepare for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on October 7th. Using my daily radio show on BlogTalkRadio, I’ve been reading and explaining the preparation prayers and meditations. On Saturday, we completed the first stage of the journey – 12 days spent trying to rid ourselves of the spirit of the world. In an attempt to summarize our accomplishments, I sent the following email message to all participants. If you’re interested in learning more about this great devotion, please email Me . I guarantee it will change your life!

Congratulations!

We have completed the first phase of the process. It’s important to remember that the first 12 days of Preparation for Total Consecration are designed to help rid ourselves of the spirit of the world. More accurately, they are designed to help us recognize the influence that the world has over us. It will probably take a lot more than 12 days to completely rid ourselves of the world’s influence, but this period is certainly a start.

What have we accomplished? Here are some questions that should make you think. They represent some of the lessons that we should have learned in the first 12 days.

Are you aware that you have been called to holiness?

Did you dedicate a firm amount of time to spend on the exercises each day?

Have you decided on an act of sacrifice for the remainder of the preparation period?

What are the excuses that you make for not responding to God’s will?

Do you boldly proclaim the truth of the Catholic Faith or do you sometimes hold back, choosing the path of least resistance?

Do your external religious practices match your interior devotions or are you sometimes hypocritical?

What is your most common temptation and how do you fight against it?

Have you decided when you will go to Confession during the preparation period?

Which of Mary’s virtues have you chosen to imitate?

Have you identified a persistent sin in your life that you are not fighting against? Why not?

How can you better participate in Mass on Sunday?

In your daily life, how can you become a light in the darkness?

If you think you could have done better during the initial period, don’t panic. Instead, be thankful that you are aware of your shortcoming and use this knowledge to try to do better in the next phase. Be aware that the evil one doesn’t want you to complete this process and will do everything in his power to get you to quit. One of his favorite ways is to make you think that you’re not doing a good job. DON’T FALL FOR IT!!!

May God bless each of you as you continue on the journey which will bring you closer to Him! Let me know if I can be of service to you.

In Christ,
Gary

Total Consecration Update – Week 1

Hi Friends,

I hope you’re all settling into the routine as we continue to prepare for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on October 7th. We currently have 880 people making the Total Consecration, which is truly AMAZING!!! Thank you for all of your email comments about my show. In response to the requests of those who are too busy to listen to the entire show, I’ve modified the program format as follows:

Monday-Friday show (8 – 9 PM Eastern)
Introduction (5 minutes)
Prayers and Readings (10 minutes)
General Comments, encouragement and any other messages that I want to disseminate (approx. 15 minutes)
Analysis and commentary on the daily readings (approx. 30 minutes)

Saturday-Sunday show (2 – 2:30 PM Eastern)
Introduction (5 minutes)
Prayers and Readings (10 minutes)
General Comments, encouragement and any other messages that I want to disseminate (approx. 5 minutes)
Analysis and commentary on the daily readings (approx. 10 minutes)

Although I’d love you to stick around for the entire program and encourage you to do so, I realize that not everyone can. Therefore, I modified the format to appeal to as many as possible. Let me know how it works out.

We’re currently just past the half way point of the first 12 day section. In this phase, we’re focusing on ridding ourselves of the spirit of the world. Although it can be difficult, it is an important step of the process. I would encourage you to focus on the daily meditations and not try to think ahead. Don’t worry about the Marian aspect of Total Consecration yet. It will be explained in the weeks to come. The purpose of Total Consecration is to get closer to Jesus. In order to do that, we turn to Mary and let her help us. For the remaining days of this first section, however, continue to concentrate on how the spirit of the world is in direct conflict with the spirit of the Lord.

If you missed some of the days, try to make them up by using the book or listening to the podcasts. If it’s not possible, my advice would be to continue moving forward anyway. You can also push back your consecration date. It doesn’t have to be made on October 7. Although it’s recommended that you do it on a Marian feast day, it’s not mandatory. You’ve already made the decision to do the Total Consecration and have momentum on your side. If you quit now and think that you’ll do it in the future, you may never do it!

Please remember to pray for all of us making this Total Consecration. If there’s anything that I can do for you as we move forward, please let me know. It’s my job to help you get through this successfully and it’s a privilege to be able to answer your questions. I’d also like to thank those of you who have made financial contributions to my apostolate. I’m very grateful. Please know that your generosity is responsible for allowing me to continue to spread the “Good News” of the Catholic Faith on a full time basis!

God Bless,
Gary

Preparation for Total Consecration

Preparation for Total Consecration

Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary Begins On September 4th!

“I have said that this devotion may rightly be called a perfect renewal of the vows or promises of holy Baptism.” (St. Louis de Montfort)

Are you ready to renounce Satan and his works, renew and ratify your baptismal promises and make a total donation of your life to Jesus? If so, Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary is just what you need!

What exactly is this devotion all about? Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary was popularized by Saint Louis de Montfort (1673 – 1716), a French priest who stated that “this devotion, faithfully practiced, is an excellent means of making sure that the value of all our good works shall be employed for the greater glory of God.”

Last year I led over 100 people through this process and here are some of their comments:

I cannot thank you enough for doing this. Listening to your explanations is a big help for me. I also appreciate being able to say the prayers along with you because I get so easily distracted. Not to say that it still does not happen, but it would be a lot worse if I was doing it on my own. I have lots of areas that need improvement, but I feel confident with the Blessed Mother at my side I can do it in baby steps.

Thank you for all your help. Just wanted you to know that my husband and I are still with you and plan on making this Consecration next week. It has changed MY life in so many ways.

Thank you so much for doing this…it is very helpful to do it in a group …this is a huge mental commitment and a leap of faith but I find your encouragement extremely inspiring!

You are doing so much good with this consecration. I would not even be doing this myself if I had not heard you on Ave Maria Radio (while I was working on the house!). You are blessing so many through your encouragement with this devotion and your thoughtful support of those who are encountering difficulties.

On September 4, 2012 we will once again begin the 33 day period of preparation which will result in consecrating (or re-consecrating) ourselves to Jesus through Mary on October 7. As I did last year, I am inviting as many of you as possible to make this consecration along with me.

In order to make it easier, I will be devoting all of my Following The Truth radio programs during this period to the necessary preparation prayers. While you can certainly say them on your own, many people found it easier to listen to the program and pray along with me. The show airs on BlogTalkRadio each night at 8 PM Eastern or, if it’s more convenient for you, the podcast can be downloaded from the BTR archives or iTunes free of charge.

The Total Consecration is divided into themes:

(Days 1-12) The Spirit of the World – We concentrate on casting off the spirit of the world, which is contrary to the spirit of Jesus Christ.

(Days 13-19) Knowledge of Self – The focus is on seeing ourselves as God sees us and looking at the effects of our sins.

(Days 20-26) Knowledge of Mary – In order to imitate Mary’s desire to always follow God’s will, we must get to know her.

(Days 27-33) Knowledge of Jesus – In preparation for making our Total Consecration, we’ll study the life of Jesus.

Day 34: Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

If you’re interested in joining me, simply fill out the form below so that I’ll have an idea of how many of you will be participating. I’ll also add you to my mailing list so I can provide you with additional information (including where to get FREE consecration materials) and give you some further background on the devotion. Please share this invitation with as many people as you can. There is no cost and no vows are involved. You’re simply expressing the desire to become a better person and taking advantage of Mary’s help. It’s a great deal!

I promise you that this devotion will change your life. Watch your inbox for further details and get ready…

We begin on September 4th!

Total Consecration To Jesus Through Mary Changed My Life – And It Will Change Yours!

“At first, it had seemed to me that I should distance myself a bit from the Marian devotion of my childhood in order to focus more on Christ. Thanks to St. Louis de Montfort, I came to understand that true devotion to the Mother of God is actually Christocentric; indeed, it is very profoundly rooted in the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, and the mysteries of the Incarnation and Redemption.” (Blessed Pope John Paul II, Crossing The Threshold of Hope)

On October 7, 2011 (the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary), I consecrated my life to Jesus through Mary. Using my radio show (to lead the nightly prayers), I was also able to get over 100 people to join me in consecrating their lives to Jesus through Mary! The results? Over the course of the past year, my Blessed Mother has taken me by the hand and brought me closer to Jesus than I ever thought possible. Total Consecration is POWERFUL!

Here are some comments from listeners who made the Consecration with me:

I cannot thank you enough for doing this. Listening to your explanations is a big help for me. I also appreciate being able to say the prayers along with you because I get so easily distracted. Not to say that it still does not happen, but it would be a lot worse if I was doing it on my own. You are doing so much good with this consecration. I would not even be doing this myself if I had not heard you on Ave Maria Radio (while I was working on the house!). You are blessing so many through your encouragement with this devotion and your thoughtful support of those who are encountering difficulties.

In case you’re not familiar with Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary, the late theologian Fr. John Hardon defines it as “the entire gift of self to Jesus through Mary. It is, moreover, a habitual attitude of complete dependence on Mary in one’s whole life and activity.” In giving ourselves to Jesus through Mary, we perform good works without asking for “wages”, trusting that we will receive all that we need from the Master. Ultimately, our belief is that living this devotion will make us better Catholics and help us to get to Heaven!

On September 4, 2012 we will once again begin the 33 day period of preparation which will result in consecrating (or re-consecrating) ourselves to Jesus through Mary on October 7. As I did last year, I am inviting as many of you as possible to make this consecration along with me.

October 7th, 2011 – A Day I’ll Never Forget!

As I sat down to write this post, I fully intended to comment on the Gospel from today’s Mass (Lk 11:27-28).  Sometimes mistakenly interpreted as a put-down of Mary by Jesus, in reality it is an strong endorsement of Our Lady’s holiness.  In response to a woman praising Mary for being the earthly mother of Jesus, the Lord emphasizes what really makes the Blessed Mother special: her constant obedience to God’s will.  As I prepared to type my thoughts on this encounter, however, I felt the Holy Spirit moving me in a different direction.

Yesterday, was one of the most important days of my life and I’d like to share some of the details.  As some of you know, for the past 33 days I’ve been preparing to consecrate my life to Jesus through Mary (according to the method popularized by St. Louis de Montfort).  I was able to rally a group of over 100 individuals to make this Total Consecration along with me.  As a way to encourage everyone, I’ve been reading the prayers and meditations on my nightly radio show and sending email blasts.  Yesterday, on the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, we made our consecration.  Responding to Jesus’ words spoken from the Cross (“Behold your mother”) in John 19:27, I took Mary into my home yesterday.  This morning we (“Mom” and I) went to Mass and received Our Lord together.  When my words fell short and I wasn’t able to adequately give Him the praise He deserved, I asked her to take over and love Him with her heart.  Although I was tired, groggy and still fighting the after effects of shingles, I felt peaceful.  Mom is with me now and she’s never going to leave.  She will help me to grow closer to her Son and, believe me, I need all the help I can get!

I have to admit, I was skeptical when I heard about the Montfort Consecration.  However, when I saw endorsements from Pope Pius IX, Pope Leo XIII, Pope St. Pius X, Pope Benedict XV, Pope Pius XI, Pope Pius XII, Blessed Pope John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Cardinal Justin Rigali, I realized that there was probably “something to this devotion”.  I decided to pursue it, figuring that these folks are a lot smarter than me, especially when it comes to the Catholic Faith.  I’m glad I did because I now see the power of Total Consecration!

So what changes for me?  On the surface, not a whole lot.  I’m still a husband, father, lay Catholic evangelist, author and radio host.  Internally, however, EVERYTHING has changed.  While I will still try to lead a good life and proclaim the “Good News” of the Catholic Faith, I’ll now do all of my actions by Mary, with Mary, in Mary and for Mary so that (according to St. Louis de Montfort) “we may do them all the more perfectly by Jesus, with Jesus, in Jesus and for Jesus”.

Even though my lay apostolate (Following The Truth) has existed since 2008, yesterday marked a new beginning for me and for my work.  “Mom” is now on the Board of Directors and will be helping to direct my efforts.  She will help me to move in the direction most pleasing to Our Lord.  I am excited to see where the road leads.  As long as she’s with me, I know that road will lead me straight to Jesus!

Thank you, Mom, for coming to live with me.  I love you and, borrowing the motto from Blessed Pope John Paul II’s pontificate, I am “Totus Tuus” (Totally Yours)!

Totus tuus ego sum, et omnia mea tua sunt. Accipio te in mea omnia. Praebe mihi cor tuum, Maria.” (“I belong entirely to you, and all that I have is yours. I take you for my all. O Mary, give me your heart”) – St. Louis de Montfort

Waiting For Mom To Arrive!

I am very excited.  In 3 days, my Mom will be arriving and she’ll be staying with me for a LONG time.  We’re going to do lots of great things together and she will even be helping me to spread the “Good News” of the Catholic Faith through my Following The Truth apostolate.  Do you want to know the best news of all?  She has promised to be with me every time I speak to Jesus, especially when I receive Him in Holy Communion.  She will even help me when I get tongue-tied and don’t know what to say to the Lord.  What’s the big deal about that?  Did I mention that my Mom has never sinned and that her will is one with the will of Jesus!  She has the unique ability of being able to “clean up” my prayer requests and present them to Jesus in the way that pleases Him the most.  Now do you see why I’m excited?!!!

As many of you know, I have been deeply involved (along with 100+ others individuals) in the 33 day preparation period for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary which will take place on October 7th.  Sometimes referred to as the Montfort Consecration (named for St. Louis de Montfort, who is credited with formalizing this devotion), it is considered by many to be the quickest and surest way to grow closer to the Lord.  In August of this year, I decided  to make the Total Consecration.  I also resolved to encourage others to make the Consecration along with me.  In order to facilitate the process, I have devoted  all of my daily radio programs for the past month to preparing for this Consecration.  I’ve invited people to listen as I led the prayers and commented on the meditations.  Many of us have been corresponding by email and through a special Facebook group (Thanks, Katy!), as we traveled the road leading to Total Consecration.  For over a month, we’ve climbed hills and descended into valleys.  I have encountered obstacles ranging from apathy to a case of the shingles!   But, due to God’s grace and the help of each other, we persevered.  And I’m glad we did!

I still have some last-minute “house cleaning” to do so that everything is ready when Mom arrives on Friday.  Even though I’ve spoken to her in the past and read about her life, our relationship has been lacking.  Unfortunately, the blame lies with me.  She’s always been there to help me, but I haven’t taken the time to get to know her and invite her into my life.  That changes on Friday, which just happens to be the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary.  On that day, along with over 100 others, I will turn my life over to the Blessed Mother, holding nothing back!  Our Lord offered us a gift 2,000 years ago as He was dying on the Cross.  Speaking to the beloved disciple (St. John), He uttered the words “Behold your mother” and John “took her into his home” (Jn 19:27).  On October 7th, 2011, myself and over 100 others will also accept the Lord’s offer and take Mary into our homes and our lives and we will never be the same.

I can’t wait until you get here, Mom…I love you!!!
