Visiting The Lord…I Finally Get It!

All my sermons are prepared in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.? As recreation is most pleasant and profitable in the sun, so homiletic creativity is best nourished before the Eucharist.? The most brilliant ideas come from meeting God face to face.? The Holy Spirit that presided at the Incarnation is the best atmosphere for illumination.? (Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen)

As I sat in the adoration chapel this evening, I felt peaceful and blessed to be in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.? I prayed, talked to Him and asked for advice.? Sadly, for years I neglected to visit Him even though the chapel was within walking distance of my house.? I?now find myself?looking forward to visiting Him each week for adoration.? In fact, I often stop to say “hi” for a few minutes on the way home from work.? The?peace I?feel being in the Lord’s presence is something that is beyond compare.??While I’m there, I suddenly think of solutions to my problems, get ideas for articles and feel safe….Something?truly supernatural takes place in that chapel!

Many holy men and women?have written about the importance of visiting? Our Lord in the?Blessed Sacrament and I’m?starting to see what they mean.? It took me a while, but I finally “get it”!?

Thanks for being patient with me, Lord…I can’t wait to visit you again soon!

  1. I like reading Aha! blog posts like this. Thanks!

I have been a committed adorer for over three years. I also work with delinquent adolescents. It can be so depressing I had a quote from Nietzsche posted about gazing into the abyss. After some months He told “remember the same is true for the Source and Summit”.

  3. I have a parish of 400 families and we are 3.5 years of having Perpetual Adoration-24/7. Many miracles have taken place since it’s inception. A few adorers travel as far as 30 miles for their one hour. It is certainly the best gift that I have been able to give my parish. Our diocese is the entire state of West Virginia and we are the 2nd parish that has Perpetual Adoration.

I agree with Jonathan above. Blogs should be short or some readers will give up after several sentences and you lose your chance to enlighten. It’s wonderful to hear about the miraculous Perpetual Adoration chapels. That certainly is a great gift, Fr. Buchlein.

Thanks for all of your comments thus far! Interestingly enough, this blog post almost didn’t happen. However, when I got home from the chapel, I felt so good that I needed to share my feelings. I fought off the desire to get some sleep and spent a few minutes just writing “from the heart”. Eucharistic adoration has changed my life and I’m grateful to the Lord for making Himself present in this manner. I’ll continue to do my best to promote adoration of the Blessed Sacrament!

  5. All he wants us to do is love him and love each other, and yet we find that so hard to do.
